Let’s have a chat about our Core candle collection today! We’ll be talking through each fragrance to find your perfect match, it might just become your new fave!
Our core collection popped up at the start of the year but, to be honest, I just haven’t spoken about it very much.
The idea came to me at the end of last year, when the Christmas rush had died down and the dust had settled…it dawned on me, I had THIRTY NINE fragrances.
Now we all love a bit of choice, but too much choice? Well, it can be overwhelming. From a business point of view, it was also very tricky and pretty expensive to keep all of these fragrances in stock.
Don’t get me wrong, we still have a pretty large selection, 17 to be exact, plus limited edition collections.
But the real decision to make was how many candle fragrances do I offer?
Now each candle takes 2weeks to fully cure(we’ll talk about this process another day) and so I have to plan in advance to keep every fragrance in stock and I didn’t want to go into overkill so I picked five key fragrance to suit every mood and taste!
So let me introduce them with their origin stories!
Yes, that's right, each candle has its own story/personality that inspires it. I know it might seem a little off the wall, but this is what really makes me excited about the development process, it helps me understand the needs for each fragrance and makes sure I make them the best I can to develop an atmosphere in your home!
First up, we have HRH EVIL QUEEN - the earthy one
In a kingdom veiled by an enchanted forest, where moonlight danced upon silver leaves, ruled a queen both captivating a cruel. Her eyes held secrets - icy pools of deep Amethyst that pierced the hearts of those who dared meet her gaze. Her beauty was ethereal, alabaster skin, raven black hair and lips the colour of blood red petals. The queens beauty was sustained by stolen youth, she lured maidens to her palace promising eternal loveliness and beauty, but she drained their souls and trapped them within the walls of her castle. Don’t get too close, you could be her next victim.
With rich, earthy aromas of Green leaf, Fig and Oak moss, this powerful fragrance is an all rounder. But its not all heavy notes, she’s lightened up with floral Bergamot and Vetiver, bright citrus notes and softened with coconut to lure you in. For any lovers of fresh but floral, this heady scent is for you.
She is also one of the most premium fragrances that we have, so if you want to impress your friends or indulge in your own cosy home atmosphere, this queen is the one for you!
And let’s not forget to mention that she has been our bestseller since the very beginning. She was added to the candle collection because she was so popular in wax melts and she has not let us down.
(She’s also my sisters fave so she’s probably going to be here forever!)
Next we have the cosy classic YE OLDE BOOKSHOPPE - The cosy one
Down a secluded cobbled street, dimly lit by lamplight, you stumble across a small wooden shop with a warming glow shining through the small panes. You step through the creaky wooden door, brass bell chiming softly and the air thick with the scent of aged paper. The shelves sag under the weight of leather bound classics and dog-eared mysteries that have been long forgotten. Curling up in a worn armchair by the fireplace, crackling logs casting dancing shadows on the wall, you settle down and lose yourself in the pages of a well-loved novel.
If cosying up with a good book or spending your time in a snuggly coffee shops is your vibe….then this candle is for you!
That main fragrance note of this candle is unadulterated Sandalwood. Creamy, woody and cosy. It also has a slight bit of musk to it which gives that nostalgic mustiness of antique books and time gone by(it actually reminds me of the pages of an old Mandy or Bunty comic!)
This is my self proclaimed favourite, it’s the most perfect, comforting and cosy night in fragrance and I can’t watch a Harry Potter without it!
Now we get into the newbies, the once that came about from the core collection, so without further ado lets introduce JAMMY SO & SO - The fruity one
In a sun-kissed meadow, dappled with wildflowers. The grass is soft underfoot, and a gentle breeze sweeps the hanging branches of the weeping willow. You lay out your checkered blanket by the babbling brook and wait for your girlfriends to arrive. Each of you have basket overflowing with tasty treats, from crusty baguettes, and wedges of creamy brie, to the sweetest strawberries and scones with cream and jam. The sun warms your skin and the air is filled with laughter, you share stories, reminisce on times gone by and dream of future adventures. With all the time in the world you watch the clouds drift by until the sun starts to set and you wish the day would never end.
Inspired by fresh summer fruits and countryside picnics, this Black Plum & Rhubarb fragrance just had to have a space in our core collection.
Rhubarb has always been a super nostalgic fragrance for me, my Grandma and Grandad had the most ENORMOUS rhubarb bushes in their garden and so from the end of Spring and into Summer the whole kitchen would be filled the the fragrance of stewed rhubarb and sweet custard. That smell always meant the start of the Summer Holidays (and as someone who didn’t like school at all, six weeks of freedom!)
So if you love an uplifting, fruity fragrance than look no further. It’s not just Rhubarb and plum that make up this fragrance but they also impressively sweet notes of Pear, Peach and Blackberry to round off this fruit salad. If you’re struggling to imagine it, think of the fruitiest jam you’ve ever smelt…delicious!
Next up we have a bit of a gear change with THE TOBACCONIST - The masculine one
Rich mahogany, dimly lit interiors, and the lingering scent of tobacco, let’s step back in time to meet the Tobacconist.
The aroma of a burning cigar fills the air, its smokey, wispy, tendrils spread enticing scents that perfumes the room. Patrons in jewelled coloured velvet gather to enjoy the camaraderie of sharing stories over smoke.
The shopkeeper, with weathered hands and expressive features expertly selects cigars for each customer, sharing his passion and unbeatable knowledge. Whiskey in one hand and cigar in the other, he commands attention with stories of adventure and his mysterious past.
Now i’m not really one for describing a fragrance as Masculine, but I can’t help it, it’s stereotypically very…manly!
It starts with heady, smoky notes of Cuban Cigars, rich tobacco and warming, woody oak. Heart notes of Clove and Patchouli bring an expensive richness to the fragrance, gently lightened by citrussy Grapefruit and decadent Rum.
If you love a warming, aftershave like fragrance then this is definitely on to try!
Last but by no means least, we have the wonderfully mysterious ENCHANTED FOREST - The Floral One
Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, there was an Enchanted Forest. Full of ancient oaks, babbling brooks and fairy rings.
The forest was full of the most beautiful wildlife, from silky coated deer, their fawns nibbling on the abundant blackberry bushes, fluffy bunnies that could be found nestled in the wild herb gardens and the prettiest birds that would hop amongst the roses. You might even spot a shimming horn from afar.
Nestled deep within the heart of the Enchanted Forest stood a magnificent castle. Its turrets reached for the sky, and its walls shimmered with an otherworldly glow. But this was no ordinary castle—it was the home of the Evil Queen.
So be careful, the forest isn't always as welcoming as it seems. It has a magical way of deciding your fate. If you hear a whisper from afar it might just be the trees talking to one another. And if you see a frog wearing a tiny crown...give him a kiss from me!
The last in our collection, but just as wonderful as the rest, our Enchanted Forest fragrance is magical blend of Blackberry and bay. Making this an exquisite floral fragrance that is grounded by herbal notes but also has a citrus edge.
With top notes of dark berries, floral heart notes of Rose, Geranium and Bay and grounding base notes of Sandalwood and Musk, this fragrance will really take you on a special journey.
Now these stories may seem a little bit silly or too much, but a story is really where my candles begin. I develop each fragrance to take you on a journey, an experience. It's where my ideas first develop and everything is built around that. I've always been a storyteller and a daydreamer so it comes as no surprise.
